Summer Workshop - Wednesday 29 June 2011
The event was opened by Sir David Bell, Permanent Secretary of the DfE who spoke about the SEN Green Paper Consultation, a National Funding Formula and future perspectives. He then took questions.
Jack Hatch, Headteacher at St Bede Church of England Primary School, shared further information about a proposed National Funding Formula.
Top Tips on employment issues and excersing freedoms and autonomy were given by Martin Latham, Headteacher at Robinswood Primary School, Mike Griffiths, Principal at The Samworth Church Academy and Peter Woodhouse, Partner of Stone King Solicitors.
We then offered a choice of workshops:
- Converting to Academy (with input from Jenny Bexon-Smith, Headteacher at Tudor Grange Academy, Kevin Eveleigh, Headteacher at Barnby Road Primary Academy and Roger Inman, Partner of Stone King Solicitors)
- A Business Managers Forum (with input from Jayne Harrison, Business Manager at Violet Way Academy and Noelle Boyle, Business Manager at Hayfield Academy)
- The SEN Green Paper (input from Niels Chapman)
This was followed by a short presentation by Professor Jonathan Blackledge of The Wren Partnership on their Investment in Enterprise Programme.
Members Business followed before the event closed at 4.30.

New to Academy - 9 February 2011
On 9 February we held a New to Academy seminar. This was attended by 60 people, including representatives from the DfE.
The programme for the day was:
- Introduction and welcome from Tom Clark, Executive Chairman of FASNA
- 'My story' presentation from Neil Calvert, Headteacher, The Long Eaton School - the school was just about to complete their conversion process and is now an Academy
- 'My Story' presentation from Richard Barnard, Chair of Govenors, Robinswood Primary School - this school is also nearing the end of the conversion process
- Information about the FASNA Self Assessment Guide presented by Joan Binder, Vice President of FASNA
- The legal context presented by Roger Inman, Partner of Stone King
- Brief update from Saleem Quasi, DfE
- Practical issues including financial accountability framework, procurement of services, gaining governor and parent support, with inputs from all our presenters
- Questions and answers
